CV / Adriana Ciudad

*1980 in Lima, Peru

Adriana Ciudad is a half Peruvian, half German artist based in Bogotá, Colombia for 4 years. He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin (UdK), where he graduated with a master's degree (Meisterschüler) in 2008.

Her most recent works have been exhibited at SACO (Antofagasta), at Casa del Lago (Mexico City), at Y Gallery (New York) and at NC-arte (Bogotá). Among the acknowledgments received is the project grant of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) obtained in 2012 to carry out a project in Los Angeles. She also obtained the Painting Scholarship of the Dorothea Konwiarz Foundation in Berlin, from 2010 to 2011. Adriana Ciudad has obtained several Artist-In-Residency-Programs. In 2017 at LUGAR A DUDAS (Cali) and at SACO (Antofagasta), in 2012 at Commonwealth & Council Gallery (Los Ángeles) and in 2011 at TUPAC - Visual Creation Center (Lima).

In her work she is interested in addressing social, political and environmental concerns of Latin America. Adriana Ciudad seeks to explore these issues through poetic languages, visual metaphors and analogies. She uses painting, drawing, sound and installation, exploring their limits and encounters, which result in a permanent deconstruction of the artistic categories. This search has led her to create pieces that incite visceral reactions and critical reflections on Latin American complexity issues.
